CD Rugby Albéitar secure top spot
CD Rugby Albéitar topped Pool A of the Regional League, maintaining their unbeaten run after seeing off Independiente de Santander in an exciting game in Villaobispo. Albéitar had to work hard to keep their style against a spirited tourist side that proposed a tough game up front and held Albéitar scoreles for the first thirty minutes. All in all, however, last year champions showed their class and managed to notch yet another bonus-point win that grants Albéitar the top spot of the group before the last match of the first phase of the competition. The first score of the match arrived after an impressive rolling maul that carried the ball inside the opponent's ingoal, with Mana grounding her firts try of the season. Eu added the extras and gave the locals a deserved, hard-fought 7-0 lead at the break. After the restart, Albéitar showed their grit and continued to dominate the game. The constant assault to Independiente's ingoal was rewarded in the 10th minute of the second spell when Sofi charged down from short range to extend Albéitar's lead to 14 points after Eu nailed the conversion. From then on, the locals gained control of possession and territory and would have scored in a couple of occasions but for unfortunate handling mistakes. In the 20th minute, a nice combination from the local backs saw CP break the Cantabrian defensive line to score a beautiful try. Inma converted for the 21-0. Another good move from Albéitar's backline ended with Bea touching down near the corner to settle the score in the final 26-0. It was an entertaining game of rugby. The visitors proved the keep improving and look ready to make life difficult to all teams during the second phase of the competition if they manage to beat Burgos next week. The competition for this season's title looms thrilling after Albéitar, El Salvador and Salamanca have gained their right to fight for it.
